Do I pay anything up front?
No. Just add a payment method. You're only ever charged when a date happens (when you both check in for the date) or if you cancel late or don't show up for your date.
How much does a date cost?
$5 per person when you both check in. That's it.
What happens when we both tap Date?
Steady automatically schedules the date into one of your mutual open time slots, and it immediately appears as a confirmed plan.
How does Steady know when I’m available?
You tell us. In the Steady calendar, you mark the time slots you’re free over the next 7 days. Steady only shows you people with at least one mutual open slot—so when you both tap Date, a date can be scheduled instantly.
What happens if my availability changes after I’ve set my calendar?
No problem—you can update your Steady calendar anytime. Your changes affect what matches you see going forward. If you already have a scheduled date, you can reschedule to another mutually available time (or cancel, if needed).
How far ahead can Steady schedule dates?
Steady only shows you people with at least one mutual open slot. If you’re not seeing many matches, widen your availability (even 1–2 extra slots helps).
What if I don’t have any mutual availability with someone?
Steady schedules dates using mutual availability within the next 7 days. As your calendar rolls forward, new days open up automatically.
Can other people see my full availability?
No. Your matches don’t see your entire calendar—Steady only uses it to determine whether you have mutual open time.
Why can I only have one date per day?
It keeps dating realistic and high-intent. One date per day prevents double-booking and match-hoarding—so when you tap Date, you’re actually ready to meet.
How does check-in work? How do I check in for my date?
Check in when you arrive at your date location. To check in, your phone needs to be within the app’s 100-foot check-in radius (you’ll see the radius on the map). Check-in confirms the date happened and triggers pricing/accountability.
How is the check-in location determined?
When the app schedules your date, each person can propose up to 3 check-in spots. Once you both confirm the same one, it’s locked in as the check-in location. You can still change it up to 2 hours before the date time. If you don’t agree on a check-in location in time, Steady auto-selects the first proposed location. If no one proposes a location, Steady picks a spot that’s roughly equidistant from both of you.
What if I'm at the date but can't check in?
If something goes wrong and you believe you were wrongly charged, contact Support and we'll review it.
Can I reschedule?
Yes. You can reschedule to another mutually available time--quickly and cleanly.
What if I need to cancel my date?
Cancel free within the first 12 hours of matching with your date. After that, fees range from $2 to $18 depending on how close to the date you cancel.
How are cancellation fees calculated?
You can cancel free within 12 hours of matching. After that, the fee starts low and increases as the date gets closer (up to $18 near date time). Only the person who cancels pays the cancellation fee. The other person pays nothing.
What if my date doesn't show?
If you show and they don't: you pay $0, they pay $18.
What if neither of us checks in for the date?
If neither person checks in, Steady can't verify what happened, so both are charge a no-check-in fee of $18. If you believe you were wrongly charged, please contact Support.
When can I check in for my date?
You can check in only within the check-in time window--starting 15 minutes before your scheduled date time and ending 15 minutes after your scheduled date time (30 minutes total).
What if I'm late for my date?
You can only check in for your date within the check-in time window. If you anticipate being more than 15 minutes late for your date, you can reschedule to another mutually available time in the app, but you must do so no less than 2 hours before the currently scheduled date time.
When can we share phone numbers, social handles, and other personal info?
Chat stays in-app until you meet. We block most attempts to share phone numbers and social handles until you've both checked in for your date.
Can I remove my payment method once I've added it?
Yes, unless you have an upcoming date scheduled or Agent is enabled. We need a valid payment method for accountability.
Can I pause my profile / take a break?
Yes. You can pause discovery at any time by removing your availability from your in-app calendar.
Can I block or report someone?
Yes. You can block or report a profile or the chat. Note that, in order to block a person with whom you have an upcoming date scheduled, you must cancel the date in the process.
Does Steady read my messages?
We analyze chats to improve matching (using frameworks like Big Five, attachment styles, and love languages). Personality insights currently work behind the scenes.
How does AI learn about me?
We analyze how you communicate in chats using established psychological frameworks (Big Five personality traits, attachment styles, love languages). This helps us to understand your communication style and what communcation styles you like in your partners, not just your stated preferences.
What is Agent?
Agent is optional. If you enable it, it can prioritize who you see and (within your rules) automatically tap "Date" for you when there's a great match and mutual availability for a date. The more you interact with the app, the better Agent gets to know you and your preferences.
Is Agent on by default?
No. You choose whether to enable Agent and can toggle it on or off at any time.
Can I see my personality insights?
We're working on making these visible to you. For now, they work behind the scenes to improve your matches.
